Job Purpose


Manage and coordinate the work of the Quality Control Department, whose major duties consist of controlling manufacturing by the company, in accordance with applicable codes and specifications.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Participates with the Executive Management Team for the USI Quality Assurance Program
  • Certified Welding Inspector Requirement from the American Welding Society AWS
  • Oversees all work performed by Assistant Inspectors who may perform specific inspection functions under the supervision of the QC Manager/QC Inspector
  • Performs visual and dimensional inspections of fabricated material to AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5 or other applicable codes and specifications
  • 100% traceability of all welded product per AISC and USI Quality Assurance Program
  • Communication with all departments and subcontracted detailers and outside inspection agencies
  • Track all Non conformances (NCR) for root cause and its disposition
  • Maintains records of inspections of quality criteria including, welded material per job, welder qualification, bolts, outside welding inspection companies, etc.
  • Responsible for Welder Qualification and any associated testing for shop and field personnel
  • Maintains all shop welding personnel records and continuity logs
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of all company Pre-qualified and Qualified by Testing, welding procedures, & WPS
  • Works closely with production personnel to perform activities with the least amount of disruption to the production process
  • Makes corrections with production personal to fix sub-standard work, utilizing appropriate communication and teaching techniques
  • Education and Experience Requirements and Levels of Qualification of Inspectors are listed in AWS B5.1 Specification for the Qualification of Welding Inspectors and AWS QC1, Standard for AWS Certification of Welding Inspectors
  • Knowledge of Skidmore Bolt testing with required Inspection Log
  • Knowledge of Paint testing and associated tools
  • Maintains the works area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations

Qualifications


High School Diploma, GED and/or Vocational School


Minimum of five years’ experience in an occupational function with a direct relationship to weldments fabricated to national or international standards


9+ years’ experience welding experience in a structural steel environment


Basic shop math, blueprint reading, reading, technical writing skills, and interpret English, basic mechanical skills, effectively utilize lifting devices, ability to read and interpret tape measures, other inspection tools, shop paperwork and work instructions, ability to verify log and procedures for accuracy


Strong attention to detail; ability to multitask and manage time effectively


Proficient computer skills on Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Fabsuite


Visual acuity is mandatory per AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5; Jaeger J2 Specifications at a distance of 12 inches or greater 30.5 cm


Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all levels in the organization, Customers and Vendors; must be able to deal with ambiguity and various changing requirements while maintaining a professional attitude


 


Working Conditions


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of condition within a manufacturing environment.  The company provides engineering controls, PPE and regular training to mitigate the employee’s exposure to these elements.


Must be able to bend, kneel, twist, pull, push, go up and down stairs.
